• Individual Security Officers: Anyone who intends to work as a security guard, private investigator, bouncer, access control officer, or any other security professional must obtain a valid PSiRA registration before starting work.
• Security Companies: Businesses that provide private security services, deploy security personnel, or offer security solutions to clients are required to register with PSiRA to operate legally in South Africa.

PSiRA Registration Requirements for Business

If you’re registering a private security company, you’ll need to meet a few additional business requirements before your application can be approved:

• Business Registration: Your company must be officially registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) before applying for PSiRA business registration.
• Director Registration: Every director, partner, member, or trustee associated with the business must already hold an individual PSiRA registration, typically at Grade B or higher, where applicable.
• Tax & Legal Compliance: You’ll need to provide proof that your business complies with tax regulations, including a valid SARS Tax PIN, and submit any required registrations such as UIF and COID, if applicable.
• Business Premises: The company should operate from a legitimate physical office. Supporting documents, such as a lease agreement or proof of address, may be required along with evidence of basic business infrastructure, including a telephone line and a business plan.

PSiRA Registration Requirements for Individual

Before applying for individual PSiRA registration, you must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:

• Minimum Age: Applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of registration.
• South African Residency: You must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident with valid identification.
• Clean Criminal Record: Individuals convicted of certain serious criminal offences may not qualify for PSiRA registration, as applicants are required to meet the authority’s fit-and-proper standards.
• Approved Security Training: You must complete the required security training through a PSiRA-accredited training provider. Most applicants begin with Grade E training and can progress to higher grades such as D, C, B, or A, depending on their role.
• Employment Restrictions: You cannot be an active member of the military, intelligence services, or the South African Police Service while applying for or holding PSiRA registration.

• Open your browser and visit the PSiRA website: https://www.psira.co.za/
• Scroll down and click on “SSP online Registration” under “Online Services.”

• Select “Security Officer” if you’re registering as an individual, or choose “Security Business” if you’re registering a private security company.
• Click on the “No – Register Now” option.

• Read requirements for PSiRA registration carefully and tap on the “Yes I meet the Requirements” button.

• Enter the required information such as

  • Date of Birth
  • Active Cell Number
  • Your Email
• Fill out the “CAPTCHA” and click on the “Submit” button.

• An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your registered mobile number or email address. Enter the code, click on “Verify OTP,” and once the verification is successful, select “Continue to Dashboard” to access your PSiRA account.

In most cases, PSiRA registration is processed within 4 to 8 weeks, as long as all required documents, fingerprints, and training certificates are submitted correctly and no additional information is needed.

According to the latest 2026/2027 PSiRA fee schedule, the registration cost is R310 for individual security officers, while private security businesses are required to pay a registration fee of R9,100.

Once your registration has been completed, the next important step is to pay the required PSiRA registration fee. Follow the steps below to complete your payment successfully

• After completing your registration, log in to your PSiRA profile. You will see your outstanding PSiRA fee along with a “Pay Now” button. Click it to continue.
• Carefully read the Terms and Conditions, then tick the checkbox to confirm that you agree before proceeding.
• Choose your preferred payment method, such as a debit card or bank payment.
• Enter the required payment details and click “Pay Now” to complete your transaction.

• Access Online Services: Manage your profile, update personal details, and use PSiRA’s online services from your account.
